An investigation has been launched into the shooting death of two siblings and the wounding of three others in the carpark of Courts Megastore in San Juan on Sunday 17th December, 2023.
• The deceased were identified as 33-year-old Simeon Lessey and his sister 35-year-old Siniaya Lessey while the injured victims were identified as Simeon’s wife Kerry-Ann Moore, their family friend Nathan Pierre and another man who remains unnamed.
• Around 12:30pm, the victims reportedly went to conduct a private financial transaction with an off-duty police officer when the shooting took place.
• According to initial reports, the victims were shot by the off-duty cop after they allegedly attempted to rob him during the transaction.
• However, this has been disputed by relatives who claimed Sinaaya fell victim to a scam when she allegedly paid the off-duty police officer $11,000 for the purchase of furniture at a discounted price.
• Simeon and Siniaya died at the scene while the injured victims were taken to Mt Hope Hospital where they received medical treatment.
• Senior Superintendent Mervyn Edwards, Head of North Eastern Division has confirmed that the matter is being investigated and Acting Assistant Superintendent Hernandez has been assigned to investigate this matter.
• He added that the incident will also be investigated by the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) and the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB).
