A security guard was shot and killed outside his workplace in Chaguanas on Thursday 05th October, 2023.
• The deceased was identified as 61-year-old Shami Soogrim aka Lee of Edinburgh 500 in Chaguanas, who worked with Transit Protection Services Ltd.
• Around 8:00pm, Soogrim was in the carpark of Massy Stores at Brentwood in Chaguanas when he was ambushed and shot dead.
• The police were notified and officers of the Central Division and Homicide Bureau of Investigations (Region III) visited the scene and are carrying out investigations.
• Shami was reportedly receiving death threats prior to his untimely death.
Soogrim was the second security who died after being shot within one week.
Just on Saturday 30th September, 2023, 36-year-old Keron Benjamin, a security officer died at the hospital after he was shot at a wholesale store along Broadway Street in Arima on Tuesday 05th September, 2023.
