A Malick man was wounded during an officer-involved shooting in El Socorro earlier today…

• A 27-year-old Malick man remains warded in stable condition at the hospital after he was shot and wounded by officers of the North Eastern Division in El Socorro on Friday 28th October, 2022.

• Police said around 11:50am, officers of the NED Gang and Intelligence Unit were on patrol at Don Miguel Road, El Socorro, when they received information that a vehicle, a brown Nissan B14 registration # PBH 2555, was transporting illegal drugs and firearms.

• A police report on the incident states that the same vehicle was seen being driven in a dangerous manner north of the Maritime Roundabout before coming into contact with a vehicle along the Highway.

• Officers said they chased the vehicle which refused to stop and collided with several other vehicles.

• A suspect, police said, allegedly pointed a firearm at them on two occasions causing officers to discharge service-issue weapons at him.

• The vehicle then crashed into a wall along Jogie Road, Don Miguel Road in El Socorro, and a man, identified as Daniel Joseph of Upper Seventh Avenue, Alice Barataria, was found in the driver’s seat nursing gunshot injuries to the chest.

• He was taken to the Mt. Hope Hospital where he was treated and remains warded in stable condition under police guard pistol with a quantity of ammunition and cocaine were allegedly found inside the vehicle.

• Insp. Sunil Bharath, Insp Daniel, Sgt. Ramsumair, Sgt. Bellamy, Sgt. Rajkumar, Sgt. Martin and Cpl Constantine were among the officers who visited the scene.
