Watson Duke, Political Leader of the Tobago House of Assembly, resigned as Deputy Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly, from the party earlier today, Thursday 15th September, 2022.
• Duke promised that he will not be fighting with Chief Secretary Farley Augustine but he will be keeping an eye on how “Farley and Friends” manage the affairs of Tobago House of Assembly.
• The unexpected announcement by Duke, a fighter, came on the heels of a potential announcement by Augustine to make a decision if any, or all, of Duke’s portfolios, will be removed from him after he conducted a review.
• Augustine, during an interview on i95.5fm’s morning show on Tuesday 13th September, 2022, issued a challenge to his then deputy Watson Duke, to file a motion of no confidence in him at the assembly if duke is not satisfied with his performance.
• Augustine also added that should Duke decide to take such a route and fails, he will be removed as deputy chief secretary at the THA.
• Augustine added that he will remove the whip, meaning each member can vote on their conscience, and give Duke the opportunity to remove him as Chief Secretary.
