Two persons have died following the serious road traffic accident in St. Ann’s on Sunday 1st January, 2023.
• The deceased have been identified as 15-year-old Jaydon of Bhagaloo Street Extension, Enterprise, Chaguanas and his 25-year-old friend, David Baptiste, 25, St. Ann’s Main Road, St. Ann’s.
• Jaydon and Baptiste died while being treated at the Port of Spain General Hospital moments after they were taken there by the Emergency Health Services.
• Our camera crew went into the area earlier today after we received information that two of the victims of the accident succumbed to their injuries at hospital.
• We spoke off-camera with relatives of Baptiste who said they were still trying to come to terms with his death which came as a total shock to them.
• Baptiste has three other brothers and five sisters. One female relative told us, “every day we are trying to function but it’s a bit difficult. It is hard to come to terms with his death knowing the type of person he was. Always joyous and fun to be around.
• “He’s a hard worker who liked to party. Anybody want a hand with anything he was always ready and willing to assist. We have to try to keep strong for one another but it’s really hard for us but we are trying.”
• Police said around 1:30pm on Sunday 1st January, 2023, residents in the area heard a crashing sound along St. Ann’s Road near Rituals Coffee.
• Upon investigating they saw a black Nissan Sylphy motor car crashed into the gate of a property. The driver of the vehicle reported to police that he was proceeding north along the roadway with six passengers when he lost control of the vehicle which crashed into a gate and a wall. Investigations are continuing into the incident.
