Two Facebook bandits were shot and killed by police during a sting operation in Barataria on Tuesday 17th January, 2023.
• The two deceased men are said to be from the Morvant district were declared dead at the Mt. Hope hospital where they were taken by police.
• The suspects attempted to rob undercover police officers of $25,000 during a sting operation to apprehend Facebook bandits within the northeastern division.
• Officers said there has been an upsurge in such types of robberies within the northeastern division and they were advising citizens to desist from making arrangements with persons via Facebook marketplace which is a haven for criminals.
• Persons have been lured from communities as far as Cedros and Point Fortin to conduct bogus sales and are instead robbed by armed bandits within the Morvant/Barataria and San Juan districts.
• According to police around 12:20pm on Tuesday 17th January, 2023, NED officers were engaged in a sting operation at 10th street in Barataria when they were approached by two men armed with guns.
• The suspects, according to bystanders, shot and the two plainclothes officers and attempted to rob them of $25,000 which was supposed to be in exchange for a Nissan Tiida motor car. They never brought the car that was supposed to be sold but instead came with two guns to stage a robbery.
• Both men were shot by the police and the driver of a white Nissan sunny b13 motor car was held in the vehicle and taken into custody at the Barataria police station. He has been identified as Timothy Fabio, an employee of a government ministry who lives at never dirty in Morvant.
