Tragedy in Couva as a missing UWI employee was found murdered days after her boyfriend was discovered hanging in Tabaquite…
39-year-old Marissa Edwards of John Eli Road Extension was found dead at Exchange Link Road Couva on Monday 26th September 2022.
• Edwards, an administrative clerk at the University of the West Indies, was reported missing on Monday 19th September after she was last seen on Sunday 18th September, when she was reportedly picked up by her boyfriend Simeon Roopchand.
• Simeon had picked at her John Eli St. Ext. home in Freeport and they went out to have drinks. Merissa was never seen or heard of by relatives since then.
• The relatives then began tracking the GPS on Merissa’s phone and realised that her phone had been in at least three separate locations, including at Simeon’s home, up to after 3am early on Monday morning. Simeon had lied to them and their suspicions grew.
• Merissa’s sisters confronted him and showed him the GPS coordinates from a laptop computer where Merissa’s phone pinged at the restaurant and bar in endeavour; Simeon’s home in Carapichaima after 3am; and finally at a gas station in mc bean, which had closed since 10pm the night before.
• Simoen claimed he made a mistake. As attempts were made to further question him, he quickly entered his car and left. He later sent a WhatsApp message saying that he would kill himself and he did precisely that.
