The number of females murdered for the year thus far now stands at 26, after two women were among the murdered victims this weekend.
The proprietor of a bar and mini mart was found murdered at her home in Matura on Saturday 10th June, 2023.
• The deceased was identified as 63-year-old Charmaine Shaffie, the owner of Charmaine’s Bar and Mini-Mart of Eastern Main Road, Matura.
• Around 10:45am, Shaffie’s sister Sherene went to check on her after several calls to her went unanswered.
• When Sherene arrived at the home, she observed the back door open and entered the premises, where she found pieces of Shaffie’s clothing scattered on the floor.
• She called out to her but received no answer and immediately went to the Matura Police Station to make a report.
• Sgt Hazel, PC Rampersad and PC Caraballo visited the scene and discovered Shaffie’s lifeless body on her bed with her hands and feet bound together with blue nylon string.
• A blue and yellow towel was also wrapped around her neck and a red handle cutlass was found beside her body on the bed.
• The officers summoned the District Medical Officer who arrived at the scene, viewed the body and ordered its removal to the Sangre Grande Hospital pending a post mortem at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.
