The Police Service issues statements to certain media houses on the controversial police killings in Port of Spain…
The TTPS has issued two (2) statements, neither of which were posted on its social media platforms as is the norm.
However, the statements were emailed directly to certain media houses on the killings of three (3) friends by Guard and Emergency officers on Saturday 2nd July, 2022.
This is what Wednesday’s statement says:
Three persons, who were detained after last Saturday’s police-involved fatal shooting, were released pending further investigation.
They were interviewed and statements recorded during the course of
Saturday and yesterday by lead investigator, Senior Superintendent of Police (Ag.), Port-of-Spain Division, Neil Brandon-John.
According to police reports, at 3 am on Saturday 2nd July, 2022, officers of the Western Division, responding to a report of motor vehicle larceny, attempted to intercept a white Aqua motor vehicle with six
occupants in the Port-of-Spain district.
During the chase, the vehicle proceeded to turn south along Chacon Street but crashed into a wall in the vicinity of a commercial bank
along Independence Square.
Officers of the Guard and Emergency Branch who also joined the pursuit allegedly came under fire from the occupants of the vehicle
and in keeping with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’s Use of Force Policy returned fire in the direction of the occupants.
Three of the occupants, Isaiah Roberts, 16, of Laventille, Leonardo Brandon Williams, 17, of Beetham Gardens, and Fabian Richards, 22,
of El Socorro, were hit and died on the scene, while a fourth was taken to hospital for treatment.
A Smith and Wesson pistol was also reportedly found in the vehicle.
