Residents whose homes are on the verge of collapsing at Belle Vue, Diamond Road in Claxton Bay, have refused the offer by the Estate Management Business Development Company (EMBD) to relocate them and only pay their first 6 months’ rent.
• On September 15th, 2021, several homes were damaged and one was destroyed after it slid down a hill into the sandpit below, close to where the EMBD operates a Sand Quarry at Cocoa Road, Claxton Bay.
• Last Friday, a large portion of the home of resident Marva Fritz collapsed and according to her, it’s just a matter of time before the remainder crumbles downhill.
• Fritz said officials of the EMBD offered to have them relocated but the company would only pay the first 6 months’ rent and they are on their own afterward.
• She questioned where she would find money to pay a monthly rental fee for a temporary property when the actions of the EMBD at the quarry has caused her to lose her home.
