Residents of the Sangre Grande. Staged a protest outside the Sangre Grande Police Station where they called for justice in relation to an incident where Defence Force soldier, Trevor Dominique, was shot by police earlier this month.
• With placards and chants of “Dirty Cops must go”, the residents picketed the streets outside the Police Station where Dominique was being held after he was discharged from hospital.
• Dominique, was shot by an officer of the Eastern Division during an incident near his North Eastern Settlement Sangre Grande home on Wednesday 7th December, 2022 after one of the officers claimed Dominique pointed a .38 revolver at them.
On Wednesday 07th December, 2022:
• A police report on the incident states that around 11:45pm that night, Acting Cpl. Osouna, PC Hosein, PC Joseph and PC Peters, were on mobile patrol duties along Pine Avenue, Northeastern Settlement, Sangre Grande, when they allegedly attempted to stop a silver Almera motor car registered PCL 9668, which was being driven at high speed.
• Officers claimed they continued pursuing the vehicle and it stopped sometime along the roadway.
• The officers added that Dominique exited the vehicle, and pointed a gun in their direction which made PC Hosein become fearful for his life and that of the other officers and he fired eight shots at Dominique.
• Dominique, ran a short distance and collapsed and was taken to the Sangre Grande District Hospital where he was treated for a gunshot injury to the left leg.
• Officers claimed that a .38 special revolver with 2 rounds of .38 ammunition were recovered at the scene.
