• A police report on the incident states that around 11.30 pm on Monday 30th January, 2023, a man identified as Ryan Henry, walked into the Port of Spain General Hospital with multiple injuries about the body.
• He was questioned by doctors while being attended to and he said he was beaten with a plank. Police said no further information was given to hospital staff and Henry fell into a state of unconsciousness.
• Around 2.54am on Tuesday 31st, Henry succumbed to his injuries while at the Casualty Department of the Hospital and his body was taken to the Port of Spain Mortuary by Hospital staff.
• This is where things got a bit confusing and annoying to police.
• Officers said that only around 6:30am today, a nurse at the Port of Spain General Hospital called the Besson Street Police Station and indicated died from multiple bodily injuries.
• Officers immediately dispatched a team to the hospital to begin investigations. Checks were also made at the Belmont Police Station which revealed that the Hospital staff did not notify officers at the station that a victim came into the hospital with multiple injuries indicating he was beaten.
• Police later informed their colleagues at the Region 1 Homicide Bureau of Investigations about the information relayed to them from the nurse and a team of detectives also began enquiries.
• Officers, to date, are uncertain where the incident happened but are confident it took place within the Port of Spain Division since Henry came to the nearest health institution, the Port of Spain General Hospital.
