Police and works ministry officials were at the Caroni overpass today discussing traffic plans in the event more water enters the highway from the Caroni plains:
• For several hours’ travellers leaving Port of Spain were stuck in gridlock as they journeyed south and east from the capital on Tuesday evening.
• The floodwaters had crossed all three lanes of the carriageway.
• However, the centre and middle lanes were passable by all classes of vehicles but the left lane was only passable by high trucks and SUVs.
