• Trinidad and Tobago gained independence from Britain on the 31st of August, 1962.
• At midnight on 30th august, 1962, the British Flag (Union Jack) was lowered and the red, white and black T&T flag was raised for the first time on August 31st 1962. In a ceremony at the red house in Port of Spain which was attended by Queen Elizabeth II.
