Officers found and seized a homemade Hydro lab during an anti-crime exercise at a home in St James on Monday 27th March, 2023.
• Around 4:45pm, officers of the Port-of-Spain gang intelligence unit were conducting an anti-crime exercise in the Port of Spain Division, when they received information of a suspect whom the previously issued a warrant for.
• The officers proceeded to Carlton Street in St. James after they heard that the suspect, Kwesi Mc Kay aka “Conan”, was at the residence.
• The officers entered the yard, and called out to McKay but got no response.
• Moments later, the officers heard a shuffling sound on the inside and observed movements.
• They breached the home and spotted McKay, who ran off and managed to escape capture despite being chased by the officers.
• They later discovered a large number of marijuana plants in a man-made hydro lab inside the house as well as several other plants that were on the outside of the house.
• Officers of the Western Division’s Crime Scene Unit processed the scene and confirmed that they were 102 marijuana plants.
• They conveyed the plants along with the equipment to Central Police Station where they were lodged for safekeeping.
• A warrant is expected to be obtained for McKay’s arrested in connection with marijuana cultivation.
