A licensed firearm holder shot and killed his wife and injured one of his sons before being shot by responding police officers at his Edward Trace, Basse Terre, Moruga home on Wednesday 10th August 2022.

• The incident occurred around 10am when several gunshots were heard coming from the house at Edward Trace, Basse Terre Village.

• The suspect, identified as 80-year-old Carltus Maudie aka Sankar exited the yard with the gun in his hands and was confronted by responding police officers who shot him and took away the weapon from him.

• He was taken to the Princes Town District Hospital where a relative told us he was declared dead but the TTPS has stated he remains alive.

• Inside the house 82-year-old Catholic Lay Minister Sylda Maudie, was discovered with gunshot injuries about the body and died at the scene.

• One of the couple’s elder son, Derrick Maudie, an ex policeman, was also injured during the incident while defending his mother and was taken to the Princes Town District Hospital where he was treated and transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital for additional treatment.

• Carltus, a retired County Council employee, was a hunter hence the reason he had a licensed firearm, a relative told us. Prior to the killing one relative said, there was an altercation inside the house.

• Sylda often attended the Roman Catholic Church in Gran Chemin.

TTPS: Suspect shot but warded at hospital.

Contrary to a report given to us at the scene of the shooting by a relative of Sylda that the suspect was killed by police, the TTPS issued a statement a short while ago stating that the suspect was shot but in custody at the hospital.
