Jamaica’s Commissioner of Police Major General Antony Anderson, has welcomed the amendment of the Firearms Act which imposes stiffer jail time for persons found with illegal guns and ammunition.
• Jamaica has been grappling with a gun problem for many years and 90 murders are committed with the use of illegal arms and ammunition with the police force pleading for stringent measures to keep illegal gunslingers behind bars for much longer periods.
• Speaking at a function last Thursday in Westmoreland, Jamaica, Commissioner Anderson said that such a move by the Parliament will have a positive impact on murders and other serious crimes where illegal guns and ammunition are used.
