In an unusual scene in the capital city of Port of Spain early on Wednesday 14th September, 2022, a Capybara was spotted running along Independence Square and was later taken to safety by Ricardo Meade, founder of the El Socorro Centre for Wildlife.
• The rodent was first seen just after 5am and the police were notified officers responded where they found her in the vicinity of First Citizens Bank.
• It later fled the area it was and was chased by persons who cornered her outside Republic Bank on Independence Square before she was safely taken away.
