A bandit was held with two safes shortly after he robbed a supermarket in Caroni Savannah Road early on Monday 17th April, 2023.
• Two men reportedly staged a robbery at Lena’s Supermarket in Caroni Savannah Road, Chaguanas, where they stole two safes containing large quantities of cash, cheques and other valuables.
• The police were subsequently contacted and officers of the Chaguanas CID and Central division task force responded and caught the suspects who were attempting to flee from the supermarket’s carpark in a Silver Nissan Almera around 2:30am.
• Upon seeing the officers, both suspects allegedly alighted from the vehicle and opened fire on the officers, who returned fire.
• The men ran off and the officers gave chase, which resulted in one of the suspects being arrested, while the other who may have been shot managed to escape.
• The Nissan Almera was reportedly stolen from the Barataria area that same day.
