A man was gunned down near his home in Carapo on Saturday 08th April, 2023.
• The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Sharmar Phillip James aka “Shammi” of Unity Lane, Race Course Road, Carapo, Arima.
• Around 2:00am, James was asleep at his home when he was allegedly called out by the suspects who chased and shot him.
• Residents of the area heard a series of loud explosions and subsequently contacted the police.
• Upon their arrival, the officers searched the area, however, they did not find anything.
• Sometime after 6:00am, a resident discovered James lying in a pool of blood at the back of his home and contacted the police.
• The officers visited the scene again and found James clad only in a boxers with multiple gunshot injuries to the chest.
• The D.M.O visited the scene and ordered the victim’s body removed for a post-mortem at the forensic sciences Centre in St. James.
• James’ blue Toyota NZE motorcar registered PBZ 2743, which had blood on it was also seized by police and taken to the special evidentiary recovery unit in Cumuto to be processed.
• Crime scene investigators visited the scene and recovered nine 5.56 spent shell casing shell casings, and two live 5.56 rounds of ammo with the markings INI (Israeli military institute).
• Supt. Revanales, insp. Mascall, insp. John, pcs Mahabir, Francis, La Fortune, and Brewster were among the officers who visited the scene and pc Andrews of the HBI is probing the incident.
