A woman died at the hospital following a suicide attempt at her home in Chaguanas on Thursday 11th May, 2023.
• The deceased was identified as 37-year-old Marika Alfreca Mendoza Ali of Petersfield, Chaguanas.
• Around 8:00am, Ali armed herself with an illegal firearm and shot herself in the right side of her head.
• Someone heard the gunshot and upon investigating, they discovered her on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound.
• Ali was subsequently taken to the hospital where she was warded in critical condition but later succumbed to the injuries.
• Officers later visited the scene and found the firearm with the serial number fled off as well as one spent shell.
Marika is the second person who committed suicide for the week thus far.
Just on Monday 08th May, 2023: A police sergeant’s son committed suicide at their home along the main road in Tabaquite.
