A 23-year-old Venezuelan woman is killed and two of her compatriots wounded during a shooting at Evan’s Street in Curepe early on Sunday 17th July, 2022.
Mayerlin Carrenno of St. Augustine was declared dead at the Mt. Hope Hospital where she and two other victims were taken by police shortly before 5am today.
22-year-old Maria Hosein was shot in the groin area while 18-year-old Edinson Ramirez was hit in the upper left chest and right back.
Around 4:23am, the victims, in company with another Venezuelan woman, who celebrated her 23rd birthday today, were walking along Evans Street in Curepe towards their St. Augustine home when they were approached by three men.
The suspects opened fire on the victims before fleeing the scene along Mc Inroy Street in Curepe.
WPCs Hunte and Caraby along with PCs Mosan, Huges and Jerry of the St. Joseph Police Station responded to the shooting and took the victims to the nearby Mt. Hope Hospital where Carrenno was declared dead.
It is believed the incident stemmed from a dispute one of the Venezuelans had with a group of other Venezuelans at Bamba Night Club Eastern Main Road in St. Augustine.
