A pensioner was killed after he was knocked down along the Uriah Butler Highway on Monday 21st August, 2023.
• The deceased was identified as 66-year-old Balraj Latchman aka Doubles, a farmer from Carlsen Field.
• At about 7pm, a 52-year-old man from Diego Martin was driving his grey Kia 2700 van north along the highway when he observed a man attempting to run across in the vicinity of Radio 710 radio station.
• The driver attempted to avoid Latchman, who came into contact with the right mirror of the van, causing him to stumble.
• Latchman could not regain his composure and was struck by several other vehicles that were proceeding north along the highway.
• His body was thrown and dragged about 200 feet north from the point of impact.
The police and emergency health services were notified and a team of officers led by Insp Jarrylal and Sgt Jairaj responded.
