Grande Riviere and environs were hit the hardest by flooding

BREAKING NEWS:

Grande Riviere and environs were hit the hardest by flooding as several landslides and overflowing rivers have been reported in the community.

Roads have been cut off leaving residents and motorists stranded as a result of heavy rains accompanied by severe flooding along the east coast.

Some residents just had to stand in the open and watch in disbelief as flood waters wrecked havoc in their homes and community.

An alert by the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government said the Tompire River, Matura River and Grande Riviere River have burst their banks and water is flowing along the Paria and Toco roadways.

The water levels, the alert added, are too high at the moment and cleanup operations will begin tomorrow, Thursday 30th June, 2022, by officials of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation and the Ministry of Works and Transport.

Four landslides have also been reported along the Paroa Road, Toco, at the 57KM, 58.8KM, 59.6KM and 60KM Marks.

As a result, some areas along the Paria Road, Toco, are impassable and extreme caution must be exercised.
