Five (5) Trinidadian men have been arrested in Grenada following a fight on board the harbour master party boat which resulted in world javelin champion, Anderson Peters being beaten and thrown overboard on Wednesday 10th August, 2022.
The suspects have been identified as:
- 54-years-old Deckham Alexander;
- 35-year-old Mikhail John;
- 42-year-old Noel Cooper (captain);
- 45-year-old Lance Wiggins; and
- Shean Jack.
• Reports coming out of Grenada state that the suspects were informed of their rights while in custody and were allowed to speak with their attorney Dylan Charles.
• Another Grenadian, identified as Kiddson Peters, was also reportedly assaulted on the boat and that matter is also engaging the attention of the Grenadian police.
Peters won a Silver Medal at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. After the incident, he was taken to the hospital for medical treatment for injuries sustained.
• At the time of the incident, Peters was attending a party on the boat.
• The Harbor Master is a Trinidadian party boat owned by Adrian Scoon, son of Trade Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon, who was earlier this year charged in relation to a brunch hosted on another party vessel he owns named the Ocean Pelican.
In a statement issued earlier today, the Grenada Athletic Association strongly condemned the attack against Peters describing the treatment meted out to him as “inhumane and brutal” which should not be imposed upon any human being.
