Cop nabbed after trying to extort two men he found in a car at Price Plaza…

A police officer assigned to the Child Protection Unit in Port of Spain is expected to be charged with several offences regarding alleged extortion of two men in Chaguanas on Sunday 24th July, 2022.

The officer is alleged to have found two (2) men inside a vehicle in a carpark at Price Plaza, late on Sunday night on the upper carpark outside a casino, and requested $5,000 in exchange for them not being arrested and charged.

The two men were escorted to an ATM where $2,500 was withdrawn and handed to the officer.

It is further alleged that the officer asked that he be paid the additional $2,500 and arrangements were made with the men to pay the money on Monday.

A report was subsequently made to the police and a sting operation was set up where the remaining $2,500 to be paid to the officer was marked.

The officer was subsequently arrested after he collected the money from the men and was taken to the Chaguanas Police Station.

Officers were expected to approach the DPP earlier today to get advice on the charges to be laid against the officer.
