Commissiong’s neighbour and friend shot dead at his murder scene by police after grabbing an officer’s gun and opening fire, hitting a woman corporal, during a fracas
• 49-year-old Garrick Thomas aka “Gary” left his Phase 4 home and went to the scene at Phase 6 where his neighbour was gunned down was engaged in a confrontation with other persons on Sunday 25th December, 2022.
• According to police, around 1pm on Sunday, officers of the Northern Division Task Force Area South, responded to a homicide at Phase 6, La Horquetta.
• Upon arrival at the football field, they observed a large gathering and they attempted to cordon off the scene, but several persons began fighting.
• The officers then attempted to quell several fights and during the process, a man identified as 49-year-old Garrick Thomas St. Clair of Phase 4 La Horquetta, burst the leg holster and grabbed Ag Cpl Madeira’s service-issued pistol and began firing in the direction of Woman Ag Cpl Cudjoe-Joseph.
• Cudjoe-Joseph was shot in the stomach and WPC Smith reacted and shot St. Clair. They were both conveyed to the Arima Health Facility where Cudjoe-Joseph was treated and transferred to the Mt. Hope Hospital for additional treatment.
• St. Clair was declared dead around 2:37pm at the Arima Hospital.
• Thomas was described as a well-respected and upstanding citizen in the La Horquetta community.
• W/Cpl Cudjoe-Williams remains in critical condition at the Mt. Hope Hospital after an artery that provides blood to her heart was hit by a bullet even though she underwent emergency surgery.
