“Come down from dey” singer Trinidad Killa performed his hit song at the Women’s Prison in Arouca on Monday 23rd January, 2023 during the Calypso, Chutney and Mas at Women’s Prison.

• In a press statement, the Prisons Service said the Woman’s Prison was “converted into a mini–Skinner’s Park” when the female charges were allowed the opportunity to display their talents during the Annual Inmates’ Calypso Competition.
• Their 2023 production themed ‘Woman Kingdom’, consisted of a calypso competition, chutney competition, parade of bands and J’ouvert competition.
• Delivering remarks during the event, Acting Commissioner of Prisons Deopersad Ramoutar commended all the persons who sponsored and contributed towards the production.
• He noted that cultural programs in the Prison Service are much more than simply for entertainment and enjoyment, as the processes entail learning and/ or re-training of staff, numerous sessions with the charges and constant engagement with external stakeholders.
• Ramoutar added that the opportunity to compete and display talents is in keeping with the emphasis being placed on rehabilitation, reformation and restoration, which also aided in reducing tensions within the prison.
