A Chinese businessman was gunned down during a robbery at his supermarket in San Juan on Friday 07th April, 2023.
• The deceased was identified as 49-year-old Bing Zhu Zhang, the owner of Golden City Supermarket in Silver Mill, San Juan.
• Around 10:20pm, Zhang had just returned to his supermarket after dropping off an employee in Barataria.
• He parked his vehicle and was walking back to the supermarket entrance with a white envelope in his hand, when three armed suspects who were hiding behind an ice freezer, ambushed him and announced a robbery.
• Zhang tried to fight off the suspects, which resulted in him being shot multiple times about the body.
• The suspects then fled the scene in different directions and the police were later notified.
• Zhang was subsequently taken to the Mt Hope hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
• Police visited the scene and three spent 9mm shells, and one spent shell which bared the marking of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment (TTR).
Shortly after Zhang’s murder, the suspects faced instant karma after one (1) was shot dead and the two others arrested by the responding police officers.
• The deceased suspect has been identified as Kishonte Reid of Pembroke, Tobago, who is said to be in his early twenties, while the other two men are yet to be identified.
• Moments after Zhang was killed, the responding Police officers tracked the three men at a river in San Juan and a chase ensued.
• One of the suspects allegedly shot at the officers, who returned fire, hitting Reid.
• Reid was then taken to Mt. Hope Hospital by the officers where he succumbed to his injuries.
• The other two suspects were caught and taken into police custody.
• The officers also reportedly recovered one Glock pistol, one magazine, and 12 rounds of 9 mm ammunition on the suspect, who was shot dead.
