Cell phone video has emerged shortly after an Endeavour Chaguanas man was held after he allegedly attempted to kidnap a female passenger in Laventille yesterday morning.
The initial police report on the incident is as follows:
• Drama in Laventille yesterday morning after a man, believed to be a PH taxi driver, kidnapped a woman who jumped out of his moving vehicle after he refused to let her out.
• The suspect, identified as 52-year-old Nazim Ali of Oasis Gardens, Endeavour, Chaguanas was eventually arrested by security officers from S.W.A.T Security Services after they intercepted his vehicle. He was detained with the assistance of a residence at Erica Street in Laventille.
• The 29-year-old female victim of Lower Morvant Extension, Morvant, stopped a gold-coloured NZE Toyota Corolla Motor car Reg. # PBS 354, along the Old St Joseph Road in Laventille and asked the driver to be taken to Port of Spain.
• The suspect, after picking her up proceeded south on Erica Street, then west onto the Eastern Main Road then north on Williams Street.
• The woman became suspicious and afraid on seeing this and requested to be put out but the suspect ignored her and continued driving by turning east unto east onto the old St Joseph Road.
• The victim then opened the door and jumped from the moving vehicle near Erica Street and SWAT security services observed what transpired and attempted to intercept the vehicle which collided with another car.
• Police said the SWAT officers along with residents were able to detain Ali along Erica Street and he was handed over to officers of the Port of Spain Task Force led by Sgt. Alexander and Ag/Cpl Huggins, who quickly responded to the report.
