carli bay fisherman gunned down after returning from sea:

Cemetery Street fisherman killed at Carli Bay— he returned from sea moments earlier

A Carli Bay fisherman was shot dead early Thursday morning just as he arrived on shore at the Carli Bay Fishing Depot, Couva.

The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Calvin Sankar, 39, of Cemetery Street, Perseverance, Carli Bay.

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 10th, 2025, shortly after Sankar returned from a fishing trip. He was found lying motionless on the compound of the fishing depot by fellow fishermen and residents who had heard multiple loud explosions in the area.

When they went to investigate, they discovered Sankar’s body.

Police believe he was ambushed and shot multiple times, though the exact number of wounds and weapon used have not yet been disclosed.

Officers of the Couva CID and Homicide Bureau responded and cordoned off the scene. Investigations into the murder are ongoing, and no arrests have been made so far.

The murder has shocked the usually quiet fishing community, and police are working to determine a motive.

The murder toll, according to our tally, is 210.—With reporting by Ian Alleyne Network
