Former Japanese Prime Minister 67-year-old Shinzo Abe died after he was shot while giving a speech around 11:30am in the city of Nara in western Japan.
41-year-old Tetsuya Yamagami, a military veteran, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder.
The attack was carried out with a homemade shotgun made from pieces of pipe and Abe was shot in the neck and head.
