An Aranguez family was beaten, tormented, and robbed by six (6) armed men at their home on Sunday 10th April 2023.
• At around 8:14pm, the Ghany family was having dinner at their Ramlal Trace Extension home, when they noticed their dogs barking ferociously in the front yard.

• Upon making checks, they observed six men armed with firearms, jumping over the front gate, and running up the staircase and into the home.

• Rasheed Ghany’s daughter Fazeela was in her bedroom at the time, when she saw the suspects. She immediately called the police but was placed on hold.

• She quickly decided to send a voice note to her community’s WhatsApp group to inform the residents that they were under attack and needed help.

• The bandits then tied up the family with pieces of cloth, cords and electrical wire and held them at gunpoint before demanding money and other valuables.

• The bandits reportedly pointed the gun to their heads and tried shooting them, but the gun kept sticking.

• The men later found $21,200 in cash, jewelry, clothes, bottles of Hennessy and cellphones and tried to render the family unconscious by rubbing a cloth containing a chemical in their mouths before fleeing the scene.

• The Aranguez pensioner, Rasheed Ghany was badly beaten and sustained several injuries to his face while his 15-year-old grandson, a Form Four student of St George’s College, suffered the brunt of the blows and had to seek medical attention at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.

• The teenager was hit several times on his head with a gun, punched in his face and beaten with an iron curtain rod on his back and chest by the intruders.

• The teen also sustained a broken nose, four lacerations to his head and a battered and bruised body.

• The police were immediately notified and a team of officers from the North Eastern Division under the supervision of Snr Sup Edwards and Insp Sunil Bharath responded.

• The officers were able to intercept the suspects along Ali Drive, in Arranguez where they called on the group to surrender, however, one of the men allegedly pointed their firearm at the officers and shot at them.

• The officers returned fire, hitting one of the suspects who collapsed.

• The other five suspects fled the scene and a chase ensued.

• The injured suspect was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope where he succumbed to his injuries.

• The other five (5) Suspects were arrested within an hour of the incident as a result of quick action taken by the Northeastern Division Task Force and Barataria Criminal Investigations Department following the robbery.
