Approximately 30% of Trinidad experienced a blackout for several hours after one of T&TEC’S transmission towers, that supplies the Union-Ghandi line partially collapsed, due to a landslide off the new Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway to Point Fortin, in Rousillac on Tuesday 16th August, 2022.

• Many communities across Trinidad remained without electricity supply up to 12:00am.

• Some of the affected areas include: endeavour, Charlieville, Curepe, Diego Martin, Penal, Macoya, Malabar, Chin Chin, Piparo and the list goes on.

• In February 2022, a rotten Palmiste tree fell on a pole and caused a nationwide blackout. Exactly six months later another blackout occurred in the same area due to a landslide.
