President of Joint Trade Union Movement JTUM, Ancel Roget has declared something big is going to happen and there is going to be a rude awakening as a result of the treatment of workers by the Government.
• Roget made the statement while speaking at a joint Press Conference on Monday 22nd August, alongside President of Scrap Iron Dealers Association, Allan Ferguson one week after the Government announced the ban on the export of scrap metals for up to six months.
• Roget, however, made it clear that their intended action will be within the confines of the law. HE added that it is unacceptable to continue to disadvantage the poor and vulnerable within society, asserting that the government is being forewarned of a major plan that would have an impact on everyone by the Joint Trade Union Movement.
Last week, scrap iron workers staged four consecutive days of protests, particularly along Cedar Hill Road in Claxton bay claiming the Government had taken away their livelihood.
• At least seven persons were subsequently arrested and charged by police offices near the protest site at the corner of Temple Street and Cedar Hill Road.
• The protesters also accused the army and police of brutality.
