Allegations of physical abuse have been levelled against the police by scrap iron workers

Allegations of physical abuse have been levelled against the police by scrap iron workers who staged a fourth day of protest, at the corner of Cedar Hill Road and Temple Street in Claxton Bay, on Friday 18th August 2022.

• The young men said that the police and army waited until the night before they stormed several homes in the area and arrested several persons.

• Many scrap iron employees were also beaten by the police and soldiers who were called in on Thursday to quell days of fiery road protests.

• The scrap iron workers, however, vow to continue with their protests since their livelihood was taken from them by the government.

• The protests started on Tuesday 16th august, 2022, one day after the government announced that scrap iron exports would be banned for up to six (6) months, given the rise of theft in-state utilities.
