• The deceased was identified as 55-year-old Christine Beepath of Hydraulic Trace, Kelly Village, Caroni.
• Around 6:05pm, Beepath was in the water fishing with her boyfriend of six months, a Venezuelan national identified as Jose Romero and another man identified as “Papi”, when she started experiencing difficulties.
• Beepath subsequently called out for help; however, she went under water.
• Shortly after she was recovered unresponsive and the police and emergency health services were notified.
• Attempts were made to resuscitate her; however, it proved futile and Beepath was pronounced dead.
• The scene was photographed by WPC Osbourne and PC George of the Central Division CSI and investigations are ongoing.
This was the 11th drowning that was recorded in the country for the year thus far.
The last person that died by drowning was 22-year-old Nikhel Greene of North Oropouche Road, Sangre Grande, whose body washed ashore Rincon Bay in Salybia on Tuesday 28th May, 2024, after he disappeared while bathing in the sea off Orosco Road in Mathura on Sunday 26th May 2024.
