A Suspect was held after killing a woman and her 1-and-a-half-year-old daughter and critically wounding the baby’s father in Moruga on Monday 19th December, 2022.
• The deceased were identified as 33-year-old Sachel Elliot and her daughter Nova Bereton, while the child’s father, 40-year-old Akiel Bereton remains in critical condition at the hospital.
• Akiel was reportedly the main target of the Gunmen who Killed his common law wife and their daughter at their mini mart in Fort George Road, Moruga, last night.
• Shortly before 7:00pm, the three were at the family’s business place, Sachel’s food and clothing mini mart, when a blue Toyota aqua car approached.
• A man armed with an AR-47 rifle emerged and began shooting at the couple and their daughter, hitting all three victims before getting back into the vehicle and fleeing the scene.
• It is believed that Sachel slumped over the baby to protect her during the shooting as police found her over the toddler.
• The family was taken to the Princes Town District Health Facility where the mother and daughter were pronounced dead, while Akeil who was shot in the face and abdomen remains in serious condition at hospital.
• Shortly after, Southern Division police intercepted the getaway car at Crawford Street, Ste. Madeleine.
• One male suspect was arrested and taken to the Princes Town Police Station; however no illegal items were found inside the vehicle.
• Officers believe that the suspect may have stashed the weapon along the way or placed it in another vehicle with the other suspect.
