A SPECIAL RESERVE POLICE (SRP) OFFICER WAS KILLED IN A CAR ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY IN MAUSICA EARLY ON SUNDAY 09TH JULY, 2023.

A Special Reserve Police (SRP) officer was killed in a car accident on the highway in Mausica early on Sunday 09th July, 2023.

• The deceased was identified as 33-year-old Kemron Purcell of Darwill Gardens, Extension Road in Arima, who was last based at the community-oriented police section of the Maloney Police Station.

• Around 4:50am, Purcell was driving a black Nissan Sentra car registered PDR 5701, near the Mausica intersection, when he lost control of the car and crashed into a lamp pole.

• A report was made to police, and PC George and others from the North Central Task Force, as well as fire officers led by FSSO George of the Arima Fire Station responded and discovered Purcell dead at the scene.

• A D.M.O was also summoned to the scene and ordered the body removed to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Purcell was the 49th person who died as a result of a road traffic accident for the year thus far.

• He was also the third police officer that died in a car accident for the year.

Just on Tuesday 30th May, 2023, 26-year-old Tristan McWilliams a police officer who was last assigned to the inter-agency task force died following a car accident on the Beetham highway.
