Retired senior Prisons officer tragically dies while on a fishing expedition in Chaguaramas, plunging the Prisons Service into mourning…
Retired Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) Noel Philip, passed away on Wednesday 17th August, 2022.
An initial report that came to us is that Philip, who recently retired from the Prisons Service, was fishing on the rocks at Macqueripe Beach in Chaguaramas, when he reportedly slipped, fell and struck his head.
The tragedy is said to have happened sometime this afternoon and Philip died at the scene.
Philip, who was last assigned to the Port of Spain Prisons, proceeded on pre-retirement leave with the substantive rank of Prisons Supervisor.
While in pre-retirement, he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Prisons which allowed him to continue as a First Division officer in the Service for five (5) more years beyond the initial retirement age for Second Division officers.
However, we understand that Philip, who enjoyed fishing, opted to remain on retirement leave.
Philip, being an instructor at the Prisons Training College for many years, is known for ensuring officers under his command are neatly attired and properly groomed at all times.
Condolences to the relatives, friends and former colleagues of retired Assistant Superintendent of Prisons, Noel Philip.
