A man, who mistook a heavily-tinted unmarked police vehicle for armed criminals and opened fire on the occupants was killed by the officers at Beetham Gardens…
• 35-year-old Richard Marcelle also known as “Snake”, of 17th street Beetham Gardens, was also the same person who kicked flood waters on MP for the area Fitzgerald Hinds several years ago in the area.
• He was fatally shot after he shot at officers who were in an unmarked patrol car on Tuesday 23rd August, 2022.
• Around 10:00pm, officers of the Port of Spain task force were on patrol at Beetham Gardens when Marcelle shot at the vehicle, causing the officers to return fire.
• He was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he was declared dead.
• A rifle was found after the shooting, which happened in the driveway of a house on 17th street, Beetham Gardens.
• When our camera crew visited the area earlier today, residents remained mum on the shooting indicating they didn’t know where it occurred.
In 2018: Marcelle was fined $400 after pleading guilty to kicking water on the then-acting Attorney General Fitzgerald Hinds after he visited the area after days of flooding.
• He was also charged with assault beating and the use of obscene language for the attack on Hinds and Councillor Akil Audain.
