The initial story which claimed that Joel Modeste was shot while attempting to rob Seereeram Memorial Vedic Primary School in Chaguanas last night is allegedly false.
Modeste was reportedly shot and wounded after he confronted a businessman who sold a faulty air condition unit.
Attempts were previously made to get the issue rectified, but they proved futile.
Joel who lived close to the school got word that the contractor was at the school completing a job and went there to confront the man when he was shot by a parent and licensed firearm holder who was assisting the man.

A man was shot and wounded by a licensed firearm holder during an attempted robbery at a Primary School in Chaguanas on Tuesday 28th March, 2023.
• The suspect was identified as Joel Modeste, the father of 9-year-old Jomol Modeste who was gunned down while playing at African Grounds in Enterprise on Saturday 15th October 2022.
• Around 9:00pm, Modeste reportedly armed himself with a gun and entered Seereeram Memorial Vedic Primary School in Chaguanas and announced a robbery.
• A parent, who is a licensed firearm holder was at the school at the time, assisting with an air condition unit instalment when the suspect approached.
• A struggle ensued between both men and the parent pulled out his firearm and shot Modeste.
• The suspect attempted to escape and he dropped his firearm before collapsing on the roadway near the school.
• A report was subsequently made to the police and Modeste was taken to the Chaguanas Health Centre where he was treated and later transferred to Mt Hope Hospital, where he remains warded under police guard.
