A man was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer after he allegedly tried to grab his gun at a bar in Arima, early on Friday 18th November, 2022.
• The deceased has been identified as Akim Noel of D’Abadie, Arima.
• Around 12:30am, the police sergeant was in the company of a woman at bailey’s bar at the Eastern Main Road in Arima when they were approached by a man and woman.
• The officer and the man began talking, but eventually the officer walked away.
• Reportedly, another man approached and grabbed the officer by his clothing, this time announcing a robbery.
• The officer warned the man of his occupation, however, the man attempted to reach for the officer’s gun which resulted in the man being shot once.
• He was taken to the Arima Health Facility, where he was declared dead around 12:50am.
