A high-speed chase left one bandit dead and another injured

A high-speed chase left one bandit dead and another injured at hospital after they crashed a vehicle stolen from a family in Trincity on Monday 13th March 2023.

• The deceased man remains unidentified while the injured bandit has been identified as Shondell Weeks of Quarry Trace, San Juan.

• Around 8:25 pm, a 38-year-old male victim and his family pulled up along Casselton Trincity in a black Honda Vezel SUV valued at $185,000 when they were accosted by Two men of African descent.

• One of the suspects who was armed with a firearm pointed the weapon at the family and demanded the man hand over the keys to the vehicle.

• The victim complied and the suspects drove off with the SUV.

• A report was subsequently made to the police.

• Shortly after, W/Cpl Lopez, WPC Mitchell-Anderson, PC Jagganath, and PC Cassar of the Tunapuna Municipal Police spotted

the vehicle proceeding north along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway at speed and a chase ensued.

• The vehicle crashed into a barrier along the highway near the Grand Bazaar entrance and two suspects have observed nursing injuries.

• The Emergency Health Services were summoned and the suspects were taken to the Mt Hope Hospital.

• The suspect who was unresponsive succumbed to his injuries at the hospital around 9:50pm while Shondell was treated and warded in stable condition under police guard.

• The stolen SUV was subsequently searched and police found and seized a Heckler and Koch 9mm pistol along with 13 live rounds of 40 cal ammunition.

• The vehicle was later wrecked to the Arouca Police Station for additional processing and safekeeping.

• ASP Ramharrack was among the senior officers who visited the scene and Detective PC Roopnarine of the Arouca CID is probing the incident
