A fruit vendor was gunned down while conducting sales in St Augustine on Saturday 22nd July, 2023.
• The deceased was identified as 45-year-old Darryl Bridgelal of College Road Extension, St Augustine.
• Around 11:40pm, Bridgelal was conducting sales at his stall along the Eastern Main Road, near the Bamba Night Club, when a silver car drove near him.
• Two men armed with guns exited the vehicle and fired a volley of shots at him.
• Bridgelal sustained multiple gunshot injuries and attempted to run away but collapsed and the suspects approached him and continued shooting him before fleeing the scene.
• The police were subsequently notified and WPC Joseph and PC Ifill of the Northern Division responded and escorted Bridgelal to Mt Hope Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
• Northern Division crime scene investigators also visited the scene and found 23 spent 5.56 shells and ten spent 9mm shells.
The last murder that took place in the St Augustine area was on Thursday 18th May, 2023, when a man identified as Kyle Preston was gunned down in Santa Margarita Circular.
