A Chinese National was killed in a road traffic accident near the UWI traffic lights on Saturday 28th January 2023.
• Police have identified the deceased as 64-year-old Peter Tim Yum Lum who was hit by a truck driven by Kevin Ramnath of Maracas/St. Joesph.
• Around 6:20am Insp. Beepot, Cpl Lawrence, PC Loricka and PC Alexander, responded to a report of fatal RTA along the CRH in the vicinity of UWI St Augustine.
• On arrival the officers observed the lifeless body of the deceased lying on the centre lane of the highway with a wound to his head and a large grey DAF 10-Ton truck reg # TDM 6346 was observed parked nearby.
• Ramnath reported that around 5:55am he was proceeding east along the CRH occupying the northern lane of the eastbound carriage way next to the filter lane when he suddenly observed a man walking in a westerly direction directly in front of his truck.
• He immediately applied brakes however the truck made contact with the pedestrian. Cpl. Lawrence of the St. Joseph Police Station is probing the incident.
• Yum Lum is the 8th road fatality victim for the year thus far
