A CANDLELIGHT VIGIL IS SET TO TAKE PLACE AROUND 4PM TODAY

A CANDLELIGHT VIGIL IS SET TO TAKE PLACE AROUND 4PM TODAY, MONDAY 27TH JUNE, 2022, WHICH MARKS TWO YEARS SINCE THREE (3) MEN WERE SHOT AND KILLED BY OFFICERS OF THE GUARD AND EMERGENCY BRANCH AND THE INTERAGENCY TASK FORCE NEAR THE AUTO GURU, AT SECOND CALEDONIA ROAD, MORVANT.

The killings of 38-year-old Joel Jacob aka Lion, on his birthday; his childhood friend 46-year-old Noel Diamond; and fellow villager 27-year-old Israel Moses Clinton, on June 27th, 2020, sparked sporadic protests in several communities across Trinidad for two (2) successive days.

Over the weekend, Newsday reported that the DPP’s Office gave advice to police officers probing the incident to detain 18 policemen, seven (7) of whom fired their weapons, in connection with the triple killings.

The officers face charges of homicide, perverting the course of justice, misbehaviour in public office and making false station diary entries.

The killings of the three men were captured on nearby cctv cameras and came hours after a police officer was gunned down in the area.

Earlier today, members of the Morvant community were seen putting final touches to and extending a mural of the three men killed by police officers in 2020 ahead of this afternoon’s candlelight vigil in the area where the incident happened.
