a Belmont man was killed during a police-involved shooting at his home earlier today…

Just hours after he told his girlfriend he felt he was going to be killed by police, a Belmont man was in fact killed during a police-involved shooting at his home earlier today…

• 31-year-old Celestine Richards aka “Dutties and Six” was declared dead at the Port of Spain general hospital after he was shot by police at his Belmont home just after 9am on Thursday 18th August, 2022.

• Hours before he was killed around 7am, Richards told his girlfriend that he had a bad feeling that the police were going to kill him. Even last week, the woman said, Richards, told her that he was getting a bad feeling something will happen to him.

• This feeling turned into reality when officers of the Port of Spain division task force stormed his home at Walcott Lane, Gonzales Belmont. He was shot during the confrontation with officers while on his bed, his mother Gail Jack told us.

• Jack said even though she did not live in the same house as her son, she saw the bloodied mattress and bed sheet and believes he was shot while on the bed.

• Richards was detained by police on enquiries in May relative to a murder in the Gonzales district but was released the following day. His girlfriend told us that the police had accused him of being involved in murders in the community but such was not truE
