A Barbadian national was shot dead by police in Laventille early on Tuesday…

Months after his teenage brother was among three (3) teens gunned down in Laventille, a Bajan national was shot dead by police near his home.

34-year-old Kyle King, a mechanic of Boxhill Trace, Laventille, was shot by officers of the Port of Spain Division Task Force (POSTF) and was declared dead at the Port of Spain General Hospital.

The shooting happened during the early hours on Tuesday 2nd August, 2022, next to the St. Barb’s Police Post which is manned by POSTF officers.

King, the father of a 3 month baby, who turns four months tomorrow, was also the stepfather of three (3) children.

The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, even to family members but we understand that King was shot while inside his Toyota Corolla NZE motor car along the Laventille Road near John Trace between St. Barb’s Road and Boxhill Trace.

His girlfriend told us that he had messaged her shortly before 1am saying he was not feeling well.

Another relative added that he heard the victim’s car leaving the yard around 1am but it was not until daybreak they heard that someone by the name of Kyle had been killed by police.

King’s girlfriend went to check on him in his room but he was not there and his car was not in the yard. That’s when they realised he was the person killed by the police.

On Monday 29th November , 2021, King’s brother, 17-year-old Keston Bailey, and two other teenagers were shot and killed at a house along Despers Drive in Laventille. Three (3) other teens were also injured in that shooting incident.
