A backhoe operator died days after he was involved in a fracas with a co-worker

A backhoe operator died days after he was involved in a fracas with a co-worker while at the Phoenix Park E-Tech Park Compound in California and the incident is being investigated as a homicide.

• 46-year-old backhoe operator, Sylvan Soogrim Sookram aka “Brama”, of Caratal Tortuga Road, Bonne Aventure, Gasparillo, succumbed to injuries he sustained during an incident with a co-worker on Saturday 29th October, 2022.

• Soogrim, an employee with F.M. Contracting Services Limited, passed away around 4:30am while warded at the San Fernando General Hospital where he was warded in an unconscious state since Saturday.

• He was reportedly choked by two co-workers during an incident while they were at work at the company’s site at phoenix park E tech park, phoenix park Road California

• FM Constructing Services Limited is based in Cunupia and specializes in water/pipeline construction installation and repairs

• According to a police report on the incident, around 3.15pm on Saturday 29th October, 2022, the deceased was on duty in the vicinity of the company’s site office at Phoenix Park E-Tech Park, along with other employees, when he had an altercation with a co-worker.

• The incident escalated and was quelled by other co-workers but Sookram subsequently collapsed and was taken to the Couva District Hospital where he was treated and transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital where he died earlier today.

• Initial police reports on the incident states that Sookram was choked for a prolonged period of time which may have rendered him unconscious during the incident on Saturday.
